in my opinion, you cannot base a judgement like that on a few minutes from a poor at its best recording from one performance in what appears to be some club - I mean he's got a lot of other solid projects which speak of his genius - this for me it's the sort of 'delicacy' only those familiar with Patton and his versatility can taste and enjoy; it's playing around from someone who can really afford it and doesn't have to prove anything to anyone
