Truganini, track #05 from "Earth and Sun and Moon" (1993).

Alternative Rock from Australia (Sydney).

Lyrics:

There's a road train going nowhere

Roads are cut, lines are down

We'll be staying at the Roma bar

Till that monsoon passes on

The backbone of this country's broken

The land is cracked and the land is sore

Farmers are hanging on by their fingertips

We cursed and stumbled across that shore

I hear much support for the monarchy

I hear the Union Jack's to remain,

I see Namatjira in custody

I see Truganini's in chains

And the world won't stand still

Blue collar work it don't get you nowhere

You just go round and round in debt

Somebody's got you on that treadmill, mate

And I hope you're not beaten yet

I hear much support for the monarchy

I see the Union Jack in flames, let it burn

I see Namatjira with dignity

I see Truganini's in chains

And the world won't stand still

And the world won't stand still

Chains...

And the world won't stand still

And the world won't stand still

Let's see: Canada had Rush, USA had... Dylan, etc; UK had Pink Floyd; Oz had the Oils. Great global bands. I was to Oz in early 90s and saw the treatment of the aboriginals. This song reflects that. Saw Sand Art like on this LP cover. Fantastic ancient continent! Same tragic history here against First Nations of Canada. Try the early stuff by the Oils (late 70s semi-punk backstreet Sydney; they did it all.) Miss you, Midnight Oil!!

Here in America, Midnight Oil are one-hit wonders in pop radio, but in modern/alternative rock radio, they are not one-hit wonders. This song, ''Truganini'' was a hit in alternative rock radio because alterantive radio is for music that don't fit the mode of pop radio.

Namatjira and Truganini were 2 out of the last three tasmanians alive and now there are no full-blooded tasmanians alive

All this time I thought these guys were a one-hit-wonder with Beds are Burning... this song blows that one out of the water... why was this not their famous song?

Dear Pete, is it true that we in Australia, (our Government) borrow money from the world banksters out of the City of London when our constitution says that we have the right to coin our own money? yet we don't because our constitution has been scrapped and we are still a colony of the British empire? Are we sold out by the Australia Act and are subject to maritime commercial law in our kangaroo courts instead of common law? YOU HAVE SOLD OUT MATE - Research Nuremberg buddy..
