How many good country musicians have left us. Grady Martin was the finest. They had the ability to come up with and use their talents.

Great recording. The song co-writer was Boudleaux Bryant who went on to write numerous hits for The Everly Brothers.

+webbjr37 You asked why all the Hank comments --- well, recently a documentary "Hank Williams story" came out and its on youtube, it has the driver who drove Hank on his last ride say that the last song he heard Hank sing in the car accapella was Hank doing a version of this Red Foley song --- No Hank fan is trying to say anything about Red --- it's just pretty ominous that the kid remembered that Hank sang this song last before he died --- To Red's greatness that will now always be remembered ---

Thanks for uploading this, it is so hauntingly sweet, my grandma would play this song for me back in the 70s

About a year ago, I found three cassettes from a band called Saying Sidney. Tapes are dated 1996. In the last tape I found, 18 New Variations, the B-Side ends with a sample of the end of this song. This is about the only thing I've been able to to link to this band. They also sampled it for what I remember being the third song on the A-side. Red's voice is pitched down significantly but the instruments are fine. Anyone around here know anything about this band? Or maybe about a Greg Sidney Peterson? Both of them seem to have never existed in the first place.

this kind of underlines how devoid of songwriting talent the current music scene is, country AND pop. pure genius.

@Rick Lehman He actually sang this IN the caddy before he died. Never performed it live.. Red was playing it on the radio as they travelled and Hank was singing along.

The last song Hank Williams Sr sang at his last show before before dying in the back of his Cadillac convertible on the way to a show in Canton, OH. Great job by Red!

Grady Martin on guitar. His playing was more than just playing. He knew how to come up with innovation that most guitarists lacked.

Possibly my favorite song by Red, other than Peace In The Valley. I thought about posting it on my other channel a few years ago, but didn't. This is a better video than I would have posted anyhow. Thanks for Sharing

Even though Hank didn't write this song, it's so much like him. I can just picture him in the back seat of his car, singing this song, getting ready to pass from man to legend. He is still missed very much.
