Any clues on how Fagen got that doubling effect on his vocals? Am thinking the recording picked up a bit of monitors - along with a bit of front of house. I like it....

When I first heard this song on the radio back in the 70s, I thought lyric was "Get along you Chinaman." Really!

My favorite Steely Dan song by a mile, but this version just doesn't groove like the studio cut, with Bernard Purdie on drums and Chuck Rainey on bass. It drags just a tad. Of course one wouldn't expect it to groove like it did with those cats: Chuck Rainey's bass part on the original has never been bettered. And Larry Carlton's guitar part: Enough said.

Just saw these guys at the Oakdale in CT. They closed big with this song. I wonder who filmed this, his crew or a bootlegger.

Just a small correction - Mike wasn't Dan's 'backup singer' - he played keys and shared vocals with Don on the road for 4 years. Due to Don's ongoing persecution complex he was kept in the background like all their stellar band members e.g. Larry Carlton, Steve Gadd, Michael Omartian and many more - bit harsh to call him the backing singer. Thanks for posting though

I love him but isn't it about time Don delegated vocal duties?
