This has got to be not long before his passing. I wonder, why did he cut off his hair? That's a red flag to me. That, and the fact that it says "Esalen Institute" - That's some kind of secretive cult up in the woods of northern Cali. I wonder if they sabotaged his car and murdered him? RIP greatest acoustic metal \m/

After hearing this song, I can confirm that all the guitar players whose music I study were all greatly influenced by M. Hedges. Try listening to Andy Mckees "the friend I never met" and youll hear what I mean. This guy here is superb in every guitar way.

Thanks Michael: the nights spent with your obsessive rhytmichal sublimities have been a great deal more than your strings

It's kinda stupid, but seeing him with shaved head always makes me think he died of cancer.

Just incredible - I've been playing guitar for 25 years, and wouldn't be able to come close to what Michael Hedges played here. That hammer-on/pull-off accompaniment is well-nigh impossible to keep going for four minutes. He must've had a left hand which could crack walnuts...

No fans? You never had the privilege of seeing him play live, then. There was so much more to Michael Hedges than just his amazing music and jaw-dropping playing. I was fortunate enough to see him 3 times (once paired with Leo Kottke), and I may sound like a brain-dead old hippie (guilty as charged!), but each time was a major incident of my life, and I remember each in detail, though I last saw him over 25 years ago.

@beccalecca1971 FWIW, Michael didn't invent the harp guitar -- they've been made for a long time. But he sure brought something unique to it.
