I... have never met anybody who had a problem with Chris Tomlin before... While I'm not a huge fan of mass-produced ABC-123 praise and worship music, Tomlin's "I Will Rise" is still a pretty good song, imo :) This song is great too. However, Rich Mullins was, is and will always be my very favorite Christian artist in the history of ever. :)

Christian music is more than just a job.

Also... Michael Gungor is a big doubter that asks lots of questions. I can tell that this song was written from personal experience as he was probably overloaded with so many questions at the moment, and the "Why don't you fly..." is intended to be God's words to him in the moment of internal turmoil. It makes me think of Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

I understand how you could get that from this song. However, I don't think that was the intended message. I love the song because I am a Christian, and it just fills me with wonder at the awe inspiring beauty of our Creator God. I think that was the point of the song. If you ever read anything written by Michael Gungor, you'd know that he would never tell someone to just believe and stop thinking. That's hogwash. Christians, as well as everyone ought to know why they believe what they believe.

I think you kind of skipped over the most important part of his "argument''. The strength of the argument does not lie in his suggestion to stop thinking, the strength of his argument lies in the beauty of "all this splendor", referring to the natural wonders of the world. In other words, all the beautiful things in the world make his point for him. He makes his point by stepping back from the podium and letting all things beautiful and good win the argument for him.

omg the more i hear of Gungor the more I am inspired. I am a worship leader but I get musically lazy. it's not often I find something that makes me want to really work on my craft! Thanks for raising the bar, Gungor!

@drmageek78 Hey I'm not to try and convert you or start an argument, but I saw you mentioned that you believe in love. If no one else has ever told you, Jesus loves you. I don't know you and I won't judge you. I have no right to do so but I do want you to know that.

@butladaballa I think that this song is more aimed at Christians. He's not trying to say to people who don't believe "stop thinking, just believe." He;s not saying to abandon all logic. I think he's telling Christians who are busy over-analyzing and arguing over petty details of Christianity and missing what the big picture is to focus on what is important and remember their relationship with God.

"Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Isaiah 55:1-2

So, I've just started listening to his music, and stumbled upon this song, and the awesomeness of it has baffled my mind. So much goodness compacted into one song in which I did not think was possible, especially towards the end.

The song isn't advocating us to stop thinking. Sometimes we get caught in endless cycles of questioning and doubt that isn't healthy. We are created to worship! And that is what this is about..

@butladaballa Just gonna point out that religion is all around us, everywhere we go. It's just about whether you believe in what a certain religion teaches that matters. Christianity for me is not just a religion and about believing in Jesus. It is about a personal relationship with God, who created us.

@dramageek78 I believe in many things but religion isn't one of them. I viewed the video because it suggested by youtube. I responded because I like philosphical matters including christian apologetics. The "why not believe and stop thinking argument" in the song is poor and I wanted to explain why. Sorry if I sound beligerent. I dont intend to for I believe in love.

Another reason is that it may simply be not true.
