I'm shocked by how good the modified MXL 990 sounds, for me, that was my favorite sounding microphone of these. The LeWilson 247 has a nice warmth to it though.

None is better. They are all different, and each one could perform best in specific circumstances.

All these mics sounded the same on my headphones. I could pic up a few differences but nothing major. It would be nice to see things like the frequency ranges that were picked up and how well they are picked up as well as giving some notes on the differences you detected in the studio.

The LeWilson 247 sounded the best to me. The high end is simply perfect. No annoying sibilance at all and the low end is so crisp.

For vocals (mostly voice over in my case), I liked the LeWilson, MXL 990. Did not like the JZ BH1 at all... harsh. From a budget perspective, I would get he 990, then the SM7B if I had to. Thanks for the post.

About SM7B, did anyone caught the sound on the backyard ? Like little noice , but it was. So i think that the best microphone was MXL 990. I have it and im really satisfied with this one

I liked the LeWilson a lot and I can't believe I'm going to say this... the MXL. The JZ was too bright and hyped and the Shure is mid peaky.

The shure sm7b doesn't have enough clean gain you need a cloud lifter!
