clearly people who're saying that rihanna copied from m.i.a are not west indian. these types of videos are very common in the west indies which is where rihanna's from. i love m.i.a, but she borrowed a lot of her aesthetics/style/etc. from the west indies. though i give her props, i'm tired of people acting like she was the one who created it.

Okay, so, just an FYI for commenters: this type of aesthetic/style is very common in the Caribbean, where Rihanna is from. MIA does borrow from other cultures in her vids and this is an example of that, but there are so many West Indian music videos that are modeled after this aesthetic. They're not "copying" one another per se, it's just their culture. Also, yeah, pretty sure MIA, as a feminist, would disapprove of all the slut shaming here.
