In my thoughts I would interpret the song and video as, his family wanted him to go to the military but instead he decided to follow his "heart" to create music. After many years the family decided to finally to support him by throwing him and the band a welcome home party. But really it was all about him just coming back home. The puppets represent "..the growing culture deep inside a corpse." And when he finally gets the courage to stand up and show off his "talent" the family freaks out, and thats when they take out the "alien like eel" out of his throat, which represents "the voice that told him to follow his dream." The "anus machine" (as a lot of you like to call it is a sort of way to "throw away his voice and make him perfect"like everyone else in the family wanted him to be.
