New song from up coming album from mewithoutYou. Recorded July 14, 2008 @ Off Broadway St. Louis, MO.

Enjoy. (Lyrics below)

the sun rose and the hour grew late

the day held by the coconut's state

raked up the dry leaves that fell dead from the trees

which they burned in a pile by the lake ---

the beetle king summoned his men

from the top of a rudimentary stone

"calling all volunteers, someone carry back here

the great mysteries of lake once again." ---

a beetle emerged from the crowd in a fashionable outdated shroud

said, "i'm a professor, you see, it's no mystery to me

i'll be back soon, successful and proud." ---

when the beetle professor returned

and he crawled on all six as his wings had been burned

he described to the finest detail what he'd learned

their was neither a light nor heat in his words ---

the deeply dissatisfied king

climbed the same stone to renounce the same thing

and in his second appeal saw to sweeten the deal

with a silver plated pot of sherri

a lieutenant stepped out from the line

as he lasso'd his thorax with twine

thought, "i'm stronger and braver, and i'll earn the king's favor

one day all the isles will be mine!" ---

but for all the leiutenant's conceit

he too returned singed admitting defeat

i had no choice, please believe, but retreat

it was as bright as the sun but with ten times the heat

and it cracked like the thunder and bloodshot my little eyes

though smothered with sticks it advanced undeterred

and carelessly cast a black cloud to the sky

my lord, like a flock of dark vanishing birds ---

and the beetle king slammed down his fist

your flowery description, no better than his

we sent for the great light and you bring us this!

we didn't ask what it seems like, we asked what it is

his majesty's hour at last had drawn nigh

the elegant queen took her leave from his side

without understanding but without asking why

she gathered their kids to come bit their goodbyes

their father explained "you've been somewhat deceived

you've all called me your dad, but in truth that's not me,

i had sex with your mom and your form was conceived

but your Father's the Truth within all that you see

and He fills up the ponds as He empties the clouds

He holds without hands and He speaks without sound

provides us with the cow's waste and coconuts to eat

giving one that nice salt taste, and the other one sweet

even making the eagle who hunts from above

fitting our numbers with mercy and love

He's dressed as a flower and His fragrance arose

so must, each of you, and your father become

now distribute my scepter, my crown and my throne

the rest of our wealth to the poor and alone."

and without further hesitation; without looking back home

the king flew head long into the blazing unknown

as the smoke cape curled higher and higher

the troops fly loops round the telephone wire

they said, "our beloved's not dead

but his highness instead has been utterly changed into fire."

so why not be utterly changed into fire? (x4)

For some reason I will always consider Catch For Us The Foxes to be their greatest album. The album is just so mellow and yet so intense at the same time. I love it. And the lyrics to this song are phenomenal btw. Aaron Weiss is a genious.

@poeticsuicde thats what good musicians do. they change over time. it would be pretty boring if they didnt progress in sound over time

That's very understandable, but I wish he could just get past that, and accept how he was back then, and appreciate it, because that stuff was amazing, i'm sure it helped a lot of people, despite how negative those songs can seem

It looks as if the "step higher" key seemed to stick. It's the same key as the CD.

Even though a lot of people miss his old stuff from A->B Life, he said a recent interview in Louisville my friend went to that he'll never perform any A->B stuff live again because all that music was inspired from a time when his faith was very confused and angry. He said he was ashamed of it almost and won't perform it anymore.

Some bands just "get it". and they, not only "get it", they made it.

I think that's what happens with most musicians. They get older, mature, and just aren't as angsty as they once were. Maybe it is just because I am getting older along with the band but I think I may have liked each album progressively more. They each betray a depth that isn't apparent on the first listen.

I like the difference in the real lyrics and the ones performed in this version.

Maybe we should all go do really mean things to him so he gets sad again and writes even better music.

He's just a guy.

Wow, I wish he sang in that octave at the louder part for the album version. I would've traded the modulation for that any day.

i would have to agree on that as well. i liked the live version of this song better solely for the reason that he puts more emotion into this one in an A>B life fashion that is so dearly missed. i think it's just that he's getting older and perhaps happier, so now he doesn't have that same angsty scream to his newer songs.

i've listened to some of the new songs. love and hate. i miss their being so unique before. not that they've sold out, it's just not what i fell in love with
