Funny, the bass here is so thick but on the album you can hardly hear a note of it.

Wow, it sounds great. It is the first time that I listen the bass isolated, in fact I have the And Justice for Jason too, which changed completely my opinion about the album. I realize that the sound of this great album it is much better with the added bass, of course the original mix of the album is good too. But personally, I prefer the album with added bass, which I like to listen louder in my home, putting the volume almost to the maximum. Thanks for sharing the isolated track. Regards from Chile.

It's funny, people who complain about soloed tracks sounding bad or crappy spend more time playing alone than with others. A tone that sounds great at home usually gets lost in a band, while something that sounds edge-y and rough can really help cut through a band and be present.

Always wanted to know what the bass ACTUALLY sounded like on this album...however which there were more tunes where they isolated the bass on Justice...

Folks, it only sounds crappy because it was not intended to be listened to this way by itself. If it was intended to be a solo it would be done it would be done in a different way. The video is good for learning to play the bass parts in the song One. I think that is the intention of having this video. If you want to hear intentional bass solo I have produced my own bass solos. Here is the names of some of the them Horrid Hop, Serpent Sacrament, Juggernaught Groove, and others. Click on my face and you will be able to listen them. I would love any feedback and suggestions.

Then only time Metallica drowned out the bass is for the Justice album and that was on purpose because Cliff passes during the writing of the album. Every other album you can clearly hear it especially if you have trained ears. The other albums were just not mixed very well that's why it seams as if u can't really hear it. But it is definitely there. And as for those who say there no heart or passion why don't u just watch there live videos more closely or hell go to a damn show and see for yourself. Playing with a pick is very common especially among punk/metal bassists it's all about how the musician feel comfortable playing. I play with a pick and I love it!
