You can tell his voice really lost the power. Man I wish he still had that 89' vocals. It gets annoying when he does so many "OOOoooohhhs"

Thats why I don't like him. He's a great producer, don't get me wrong, but he's a grade A asshole. He tells Lars not to have him sing really rough and heavy like he did on St. Anger cause he doesn't "want him to blow his voice out", but he forced him to sing in a way that ruined his voice and changed it and it took him a good fifteen years to get even close to where he was before the Black Album released.

Yup. Bob Rock forced him to sing in a way that was outside of his comfort zone, and as a result, he lost the 'growl' in his voice. This is why his singing is strained in standard too. He didn't know how to get to the high notes anymore.

@ShanghiKnight13 Jason was force to cut his hair by 1993 because his hair was damaged by smoke during live

what I can say this is James' voice began to mature since 1988 As his voice gets deeper and stronger since the recordings of ajfa. His voice was fully matured during his time in live Seattle 1989. However he blew out his voice in 1991 while sing so what during the black album recordings because fucking bob rock force him to abandon his godly thrash metal singing style for a traditional metal singing style.

Dildo Faggins

that had nothing to do with him losing his voice. watch vids from 1991-early 1992 his voice pregressivly gets worse and worse cause of touring. best way to tell the difference is watch moscow 91 vids where his voice was flawless to san deigo 92 where his voice was starting fade then to den bosch witch was december of 92 and his voice is wasted

He actually blew his voice prior to the Black Album. They recorded "So What" for a single and for addition to the Black Album overseas. He talks about it in the 1st dvd of "A Year and A Half in the Life Of" documentary that chronicles the recording (disc 1) and touring (disc 2) the Black Album. I don't know when or why he started yoddeling, but I wish he'd stop...
