The chorus set-up and structure is SOOOO much better in the final album version of the song. I'm so glad they didn't keep it the way it is here.

this is a great song, not only the melody but the lyrics are so meaningful, don´t quite get why people on the "by request" shows have not voted for this. it will be really cool to see metallica play something of their back catalog

I stand partially corrected. He does play that using his index finger, but I'm referring to studio recordings. On the studio recording of Fixxxer, he played with a pick. (On a side note, bass riffs like My Friend of Misery, The God That Failed, King Nothing and Devil's Dance don't sound quite right played with fingers, to the point that I'll use a pick when playing them, except as part of a bass solo.)

Well, as a matter of fact, this is one of those rare occasions that Jason uses his fingers. Note this live jam session that shows Jason playing this song with his fingers. /watch?v=Og3RFMXpMd8

One of the two songs I will murder Hetfield if he quits before playing live.

I know it was a few years ago, but anyone who knows Metallica, and who knows bass guitar, can tell that the bass on this song is being played with fingers (the attack isn't sharp and defined). Jason almost always played with a pick. The only exception I know of is the "Betting on the Cure" bass part in the song Cure, which he played with his thumb as a pick. Also, if you find the Death Magnetic demos, toy can hear that those aren't Kirk's solos.

@OddYxD umm they had contributions but not 25% Jason only has his name on one song in load/reload. St anger and death magnetic where contribution on music ad lyrics where equal.

Yeah, that COULD be someone's cover, but it's the Metallica's actual demo released in Fan Can 3 (this demo was recorded in December of 1994, wow!)

In fact, on Load/Reload all 4 guys were composing and playing.
