Carol Zee commented that there was a "decade difference" between Ella Mae's version from the 40s and this one from the 50s. Not a matter of timing, but of genre. This version is pre-rockabilly country. Ella Mae and Freddy Slack's version was R&B all the way. It scored very well on the R&B charts, and most listeners were shcoked to find out that Ella Mae was white. Chuck Miller's 1958 version is much, much closer to Ella Mae Morse than to Merrill Moore.

Eu sempre afirmei que o r'r já existia desde 1949, temos aí um exemplo com Merril M., e tantos outros do seu tempo, que deram a base do rock n' roll. maneco - RGS - Brasil.

I love rock'n'roll, but as you can tell, they nicked the songs, and it didn't start with Elvis.

@kosteskab That's true...i believe in that same interview someone suggested Cecil Gant(the G.I. Sing-Sation) and Jerry Lee's response was "Cecil Who?)
