I never much cared for this song... that is until I heard it in stereo without vocal harmonies and background singers. I find it much more intimate simply with Merrilee's single track vocal.

On this day in 1968 {June 15th} Merrilee Rush performed "Angel of the Morning" on the ABC-TV program 'American Bandstand'...At the time the song was in its second week at #14 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eight days later on June 23rd it would peak at #7 {for 3 weeks} and it stayed on the chart for 16 weeks...And on July 20th, 1968 it reached #1 {for 2 weeks} on the Australian Kent Music chart...She had three other Top 100 records; "That Kind of woman" {#76 in 1968}, "Reach Out" {#79 in 1968}, and "Save Me" {#54 in 1977}...Merrilee Rush will celebrate her 72nd birthday this coming January 26th {2016}...

Merrilee Rush stole the song from Evie Sands who sang the original recorded edition in 1967.

One of the first times I ever heard this hit was 1968. She appeared on a show called "Happening 68" hosted by Paul Revere and the Raiders, aired on ABC in the afternoons!

Merrilee was so attractive with her long hair. Now 71, wish my wife of 49 years would have let her hair grow like this.

This classic song of 1968 is now 47 years old. And it still resonates with youthful exuberant and wilds . Priceless!

It is refreshing to hear this song w/o the overdubs. This the first time I've heard it. I have a copy of this song on a 45 with the overdubs. Just found out today that the writer,Chip Taylor,is Jon Voight's brother and Angelina Jolie's uncle.Small world isn't it?
