I wonder what she'll think about me leaving

Wish I could be there hidden if she cries

'Cause leaving really won't be worth my trouble

If I can see the teardrops fill her eyes.

I wonder what she'll think about me leaving

Wish I could see her standing all alone

If she hurts at all I'd like to know it happened

I wonder if she'll even know I'm gone.

--- Instrumental ---

Wish I could be there standing by her window

When she finds the note about me being gone

I'm almost sure her coldness never changes

But still I'd like to know it if I'm wrong.

I wonder what she'll think about me leaving

Wish I could see her standing all alone

If she hurts at all I'd like to know it happened

I wonder if she'll even know I'm gone.

I wonder if she'll notice that I'm gone...

Putain ! Quel son ! Pardon de cette trivialité, mais du Merle Haggard avec cette qualité, cela vous fait oublier les "misères du moment". Bonne écoute, sisters & brothers. JL

This tune was on Merle's 1972 release It's Not Love (But It's Not Bad). This album was released just before Merle & The Strangers played The White House for First Lady Patricia Nixon's sixty-first birthday; it was quite an initiation for piano player Mark Yeary, who made his first appearance as a member of The Strangers on that particular show.

The original. I could never understand why this wasn't a single and why he let Conway Twitty have a hit with it. Conway tries to make it sad and does well but no one sang like prime Hag for pure saddens, especially songs like this which he wrote
