Merle Haggard & The Strangers - Frankie and Johnny. From the outstanding album "Same Train, A Different Time". The song's first writing is credited to Hughie Cannon in 1904, but it's probably older than that.

Ha! Jimmie Rodgers was the original "gangsta"! Check out Pistol Packin' Papa and Standin' on the Corner for evidence.

Nice song Merle. This album came out in late 60's or early 70's...the title ( of the album ) was "Merle Haggard sings Jimmie Rodgers ". Truly one of the best albums ever recorded.
