They sound the same because "both ladies" are Meredith Brooks. I can't find any reliable source (or audio evidence) anywhere to verify the rumor that Alanis ever sang this song. Might just be one of those file sharing mix-ups from back in the day. The ol' "Not Weird Al" syndrome. Somebody found "02 - Bitch.mp3", assumed it was Alanis because of the style and renamed it accordingly. Happened a lot back then, although most famously to comedy songs being attributed to Weird Al or Tenacious D.
