Forgiveness, on the other hand, is instantaneous, but again that does not come the moment one believes in Christ. It comes from repentance. It's been that way since the beginning of humanity and will continue to be the way until the end of the human race. The purpose of the Cross is not so that God can forgive all your sins, as if he can't do it without the cross (as is commonly understood by Christians). The purpose of the Cross is to lead you to repentance, which according to scriptures has always been and always will be the avenue for forgiveness. "If I be lifted up I will draw all men unto me." Faith alone is useless. It accomplishes nothing. It is dead. Now you know why Martin Luther hated the book of James and wanted it removed from the Bible. :)
