I just can't stop listening to this! Its one of the best songs Ive ever heard. Heard it first in Crocodile Dundee before Mick does the Crotch grab!

This song has bothered me for 30 years. It's a catchy enough tune, by an act that was well established at the time, and it was always going to be a major hit (even if it was the Mentals final chart entry). But I wonder how many who bought this record realised the irony of the lyrics. You've got the protagonist in a dance establishment attempting to attract an apparently unhappy girl (it is presumed the target is female although it is never stated). The words "come back to my place" are repeated three and four times in a row, just to reinforce the irony. The irony of course is that the protagonist describes the establishment as a pick up joint while trying to do exactly that. A wolf trying to protect the lamb from the wolves. Now maybe I'm selling Greedy Smith (who wrote the song) short, and maybe the irony is deliberate, but it slipped past a LOT of people if so, and such irony in this sort of song, and by this songwriter, would be a first.
