Theory, are we talking about the one, the two, the three, etc., plus named chords like Sixths, Sevenths, Ninths? I'm basically self taught. I've learned the theory Major Scales w/ Triads. I can play basic songs w/ Triads or 4 fingered chords in every key. I'm trying to get out of the basic triad chords. I usually just double the bass keys with the left hand. I'm tying to learn when to play in Minor or Major. As far as chords go, I try to create some. I'm hoping to get a better sound.

what right hands chords would you generally play for the I II IV V VI etc. I know it depends on the song but how would you know if you should play a dim min 7 9 etc ...

i am the same exact way!! i started taking lessons at the age of 8 from a white lady and all we ever played was classical music. i'm 22 now and i feel like my chord knowledge is horrible.

this is some GREAT advice. ive been through 2 semesters of theory in my freshman year that i just finished and theory just opened up so many things for me. i know why things go certain ways and transposing is much easier now because like you said,if you understand numbers, you're good to go. i'm not claiming to know everything because i don't, but i'm so glad i learned what i did. my professor would give progressions and make us play it in up to 4 keys. its was hard but worth it.

At first you just learn and memorize the chords, after that, you dont even gotta think cuz your hands will automatically fall on the right notes on its own,

I mean...I started Piano when I was 14 too...I'm 21 now. And I'm Piecing everything together...But, Most of the time it just seems like it's not coming...Is it the lack of chord knowledge! Cause I know some theory...I was classically trained...And I barely know any chords....I'm just frustrated...I sit at the piano about 2 hours a day...Well actually I fall into worship for most of it...Lol. But, I'm trying!

trust me I know how you feel. .for a whole lotta years I was stuck in the 1 song 1 key feeling.. .and I never used to get calls for gigs or much respect. . .but after I met my guy Lance, he challenged me to name chords and start to learn theory
