The drummer ruined any chance they had. This song was a musical opera. Not a thrashing. I know they were trying to put a personal touch on it but it just did not work for me. I am more than glad to give drum lessons on dynamics. We see this all the time now. Drummers have turned into "sluggers". Drums are meant to be "played " not beaten into the ground IF you are going to try a dynamic piece like this. Grunge power chords will not work. Try to cover Chemical Romance or some such. Peace.
