Finally, my full band cover of Last Rites/Loved to Death! Definitely one of my top three or so favourite Megadeth songs simply because of Gar's drumming and the original riffs and songwriting. I actually tried doing the vocals as well but as you can imagine they didn't turn out too good and are best treated by burying them inside some underground nuclear waste chamber never to surface again. I decided to try to cut out the vocal samples from the original song as best I could by merging the stereo channels in Cubase 6 and some brutal EQ handling.
I actually almost completed making this cover way back in April but because of my drum kit's horrible snare with its terrible, dark tone and lacking recoil (ghost notes - forget it!) I decided to postpone it. I didn't think it sounded tight enough either anyway. So the same day I recorded the drums anew I bought a new snare, Pearl SS1455S/C, and it's one of the cheapest they had but sounds like a dream compared to my older one. Can't believe I didn't do this earlier, drums are so much more fun when they don't feel like hitting a punching bag and sound like kitchen apparel.
The keyboards (piano and organ) were recorded in April 15 by simply using the line-in feature of my ancient iAudio U2.
Bass guitars were recorded April 14 using a Shure SM57 (straight onto it from 5 cm IIRC) through an E-MU 0404 USB 2.0 audio interface.
Drums were recorded July 16 using said mic (136,5 cm off the ground, 60 cm in front of the bass drum's resonance head) through said interface.
Guitars were recorded April 12-13 using the same mic (angled 45 degrees, 7 cm from the bottom speaker) and interface.
Recorded using a Sony HX100V. Edited using Sony Vegas Pro 11.0 x64 and rendered as a 1920x1080 50p (same as the original footage) MP4 video using 1:1 pixel ratio, 2 reference frames, "High", 10Mbps CBR, CPU-encoded, with 48 kHz and 320kbps audio.
Drums: Peace, with one Paiste Alpha 16" rock crash (right) and one Sabian B8 16" rock crash (left). The hi-hat was a Paiste PST-3. The pedals were from East. The snare was a Pearl SS1455S/C.
