MC5 - Let it Rock (Helsinki, 1972)

A cover of the Chuck Berry tune by what was left of the MC5. Fred 'Sonic' Smith's vocals and guitar playing are a real treat on this one.

Line-up:

Wayne Kramer - Guitar, Vox

Fred 'Sonic' Smith - Guitar, Vox

Richie Dharma - Drums

Derek Hughes - Bass, Vox

Not bad....but doesn't come close to the Stones' rendition.

Fuck. As much as i love Keith Richards his Chuck Berry playing is embarrassing compared to this from Fred. I wish these guys could have tasted a bit of the juice of success...if youre reading this John Sinclair, well done for fucking up what could have been the greatest fucking rock and roll band in the world...

What would have been of the mc5 and other bad asses bands without that many drugs, they would had probably been at the rolling stones level of recognition nowadays

Baron's Bonus Tune of the Day...To say that this band was one of my earlier rock influences would be an understatement.Cheers

Watch the MC5 A TRUE Testimonial!!! Funny as Hell when the MC (master of ceremonies), intro's these guys. AND NOW WE HAVE, THE... MC5. He sounds like Art Linkletter. Sonic was really coming into his own around this time!!! Writing a lot of the MC5 tunes and singing. When playing this Great Chuck Berry tune, you can almost envision Wayne and Sonic as kids jamming in the basement!!
