Maurice Ravel-Pavane pour une infante defunte

Violin : Oliver Colbentson

Piano: Erich Appel

This is the best arrangement (violin piano) I've ever heard and I thought it's a pity that many people have never listened to it.

So, I made this video for you and I hope you enjoy it my friends.

The Sheet

http://www.free-scores.com/download-sheet-music.php?pdf=6269

-try to "mix" the "voices" in some bars-

AND THE WINNER IS tpapastylianou (THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR MESSAGE!!!!!)

Hi, I'm pretty sure I own this CD :)

It's track 7 from http://ester.utlib.ee/record=b1888307

(best link to the cd I could find online ...)

So the violinist is Oliver Colbentson (Erich Appel the pianist) according to that link.

The whole CD is great, although the Pavane is by far the best on there. And yes, this is the best arrangement I've heard since I bought this CD, even from any orchestral ones out there.

Especially the flautando bit (4:22) ... pure magic :D

NOW THAT A GOOD WOMAN HELPED ME I CAN HELP YOU . After following her MIRACULOUS message I am now sure !

For the people searching for this version specifically I did some digging and the transcriber is P. Kochanski. I found the sheet music for sale on prestoclassical for my recital.

Ahhh does anyone know where the sheet music is for the exact way Colbentson interprets this? I love his version so much

its funny how silly things give some pieces more meaning than before.... i personally think that it could have been a bit slower in the beginning for perfection, but thats my opinion... anyway, just came across some funny fact that ravel wanted it to be played not soooo slow, he said that the death one was the girl not the pavane hehe... beautiful version... i loved the harmonics it really suits the piece...

This sounds much like a viola... SERIOUSLY NOT IN A BAD WAY, It's so warm, rich and deep... so deep to the point that it doesn't feel like a violin... Regardless, this is one of my favourite recordings out there.

The most organic, solid, involved composition of Pavane for a dead princess I have ever had the privilege to experience, Bravo, Simpatico, Bravo!!!

Simply divine!!! The arrengement is marvellously well done, as well as the performers.

To all the pretentious schmucks who think this version is "terrible, too fast, too much vibrato, ruins everything bla bla", kindly sod off. This is the absolute best version of the Pavane that I have ever heard. There are many interpretations of the Pavane, but nothing else comes close to how beautiful this one sounds.

the arrangement is rather nice, but the glisses and vibrato seem excessive. For me, they distract from the music itself.
