Whenever I hear this song, I tend to think of two premature babies, both born 23 weeks early, one weighing only 1 lb, 1oz, and the other 1 pound 4 oz.., and both 11 inches long, with skin as thin as paper. They had to go through multiple eye surgeries, skin surgeries, one of nurses accidentally ripped one of their stomachs open and the other had to have his skin lathered in special lotion to keep from ripping apart. Whenever one of them would go into surgery, the other outside would start to cry, but when the doctors put the one not in surgery outside the surgery room, both of them would feel better. From day one, the doctors told his parents that they would not see the sunrise and even if they did then they would grow up to be blind, deaf, mentally challenged, never able to walk, talk, or survive over a year. They spent five months in the hospital and came home in June with VCR sized heart monitors and tubes coming out of almost every place possible it seemed and two little twin babies fit in the backseat of an extremely small two door station wagon. Even after that, the doctors said that they wouldn't live past a year, and that they would develop problems as they went along if they survived that long. Years later, one of those twins is posting this right now and the only thing wrong with him is that he has asthma and has to wear glasses. That's it. We both have a 3.9 GPA and are in the top 15% of our class at the moment. So yeah, we persevered through a lot during those first few months and I really think we gave our parents hope that they could survive on their own too. This song really does speak to me and the first time I heard it, I cried a little and said: 'This is the literal story of my life.'A couple of months ago I was talking to a friend from a psychology class, who it turns out, was an atheist. We started talking civilly about religion and whenever I got around to the reason on why I believe in God, I told him my story and afterwards said something to the effect of this:'I know that God exists because of what he did for me and my parents. He saved my dad and mom from loosing hope, and he gave me and my brother strength to continue onward too. I'm not here to preach or to force my ideologies down your throat, and I think that's why you're an atheist anyway, because someone forced down the right piece of information at the wrong time.'He asked me what I meant by that and I said this: 'What did they preach first, Revelation, the Doomsday Book, or the Gospels?'My friend said: 'Revelation was brought up a lot.'Me: 'Should've started with Matthew. In order to get people to believe, you don't start off with gloom and doom, there's a reason why Revelation is last in the Bible, and that's because people don't want to read about gloom and doom on the first go around, because gloom and doom deters people. They have to have hope and belief first. Once you solidify that, then you can move on to the more heavier stuff. So, with that said, would you consider giving Christianity a second chance?'He then replied with this: 'I don't think you're going to convince me, but I see where you're coming from.'Me: 'That's what I wanted out of this conversation. Most people that I've talked to that are atheists are dismissive and do not even bother thinking. You actually listened and thought about your answers and you came up with your own conclusion based on your own beliefs and what you heard from me. Thus, making your answer genuine. You have just done what most people that I've talked to never do.'Friend: 'What's that?'Me: 'End the conversation with friendships still in tact.'
