This is so powerful and honest and perfectly descriptive of the pain of loss: of love or of loved ones. I find nothing self-indulgent in it; she has bared her soul here and given voice to the deepest and most excoriating of pain. She is so brave.

And all that you used to know is of no use at allthe same eyes you’ve always had have you walking into wallsand the same heart can’t understandwhy it’s so hard to feelwhat used to be truewhat’s now so unrealbut it is, so it is and you sayI wish I were the wind so that I could blow away

Are you serious? This is one of the most beautiful, comforting, knowing songs I've heard in a long time. Mary Chapin Carpenter is warm and wise and brave, and so very eloquent. Wherever she goes with her writing, I'll follow.
