This song isn't about any of the things people have been saying! As I Leave Behind Neidin is about Emmigration! Neidin is the Irish translation of the town of Kenmare and the speaker in the song is telling the person who is leaving not to forget Kenmare or to come back. It's such haunting song and this is my favorite performance of it. It is simply haunting.

IT'S ABOUT THE TOWN OF KENMARE IN COUNTY KERRY IRELAND, THE GAELIC NAME IS NEIDIN, PRONOUNCED NAY-DEEN, MEANING LITTLE NEST! BEAUTIFUL PLACE ON THE RING OF KERRY, GOOGLE IT!

i posted this on my facebook account as "technical perfection of singing and songwriting, combined on one stage"... you must agree. the "dislike" is incomprehensible...

I guess the 1 dislike doesn't like simply beautiful music.

Great to see this up, love Jimmy MacCarthy's songs and I always love to hear the man behind the lyrics always doing hiw own renditions of the songs. Saw him in the National Concert Hall almost three years ago, would love to see him again. Jimmy's a musician and a poet in the truest sense and he has given Mary much of a boost in her mainstream success

Absolute magic! Not only the two greatest singers of this song, we have the writer of the song as well! The song is about the Town of Kenmare in County Kerry in the southwest of Ireland, Neidin, being the Gaelic name, meaning Little Nest!
