From what I read, Marty said he got the idea for this song from seeing a young guy walking alone across the street to a high school prom, as he was going by on the way to a performance. He later wrote the song. Amazing today how teens wear such revealing dresses and then go out to get drunk. In 1966, I paid $5 for a used dress from a girl who'd graduated. We all went to the cinema as a group after the dance and then to the Lion's Club for "breakfast" before going home at 6 a.m.

*28 Days of Love Challenge**Day 9* *Clothing*I was telling +Karen V Chin about wearing a pink sportcoat when I was in high school back in the 1950s but I "misrembered" as it was actually a white sport coat and *pink* slacks (no pink carnation). That then reminded me of the Marty Robbins song from back then so I am posting the song, and not a picture of the coat and slacks. Pink was really an in thing back then, wouldn't be caught wearing pink now.The recording was from 1957 as you can tell from the price on the front of the record label.#28daysoflovechallenge #28daysoflove

My cousin played this on the diner jukebox while I played Wake up Little Susie by the Everley Brothers. The fries and cokes were great!
