Mario Lanza's voice, photos of him with Kathryn Grayson from "That Midnight Kiss" film, and appropriate paintings by master artists, together make a lovely listening and visual experience.

The song, "Will You Remember", is from the 1937 film "Maytime" with Jeanette McDonald/Nelson Eddy.It is also from a 1917 Broadway musical.

The music composer was Sigmund Romberg.

"Sigmund Romberg (July 29, 1887 -- November 9, 1951) was a Hungarian-born American composer, best-known for his operettas."

"Romberg's adaptation of melodies by Franz Schubert for Blossom Time (1921, produced in the UK as Lilac Time) was a great success. He subsequently wrote his best-known operettas, The Student Prince (1924), The Desert Song (1926) and The New Moon (1928), which are in a style similar to the Viennese operettas of Franz Lehár. He also wrote Rosalie (1928) together with George Gershwin."

The song lyrics were written by Rida Johnson Young.

"Rida Johnson Young (February 28, 1875 -- May 8, 1926) was an American playwright, songwriter and librettist. In her career, Young wrote over thirty plays and musicals, and over 500 songs. She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970. Some of her best-known lyrics include "Mother Machree" from Barry of Ballymore, "Italian Street Song" and "I'm Falling in Love with Someone" from Naughty Marietta, and "Will You Remember?" from Maytime."

(Above quotes are from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rida_Johnson_Young ).

Mario Lanza does this with such brilliance that I wish this part of the operetta would have been in the movie. Although, he & Kathryn Grayson were wonderful in the part done at the end of That Midnight Kiss. Love this video recording. Thanks for sharing.

Megamusiclover; I absolutely applaud your response to Linz51s`intolerant & very nasty comments. Sadly, there is no shortage of "superior" people on YT who are very much of the view that their opinions & judgements are definitive, & cannot express those opinions without without nastiness & abusiveness. For me, Lanza was quite simply the voice of the 20th century. I also have a regard for Eddy, a fine baritone.People like Linz51 need to learn how to offer contrary views without the nastiness.

@51Linz I understand that you are a devoted fan of Mario's. So am I. But I also appreciate the great vocal abilities of other singers such as Caruso, Pavarotti, Domingo, et al. Would you condemn me for my being an ardent fan of theirs? Surely there is room for us to appreciate many different vocal abilities. I happen to very much enjoy Nelson Eddy’s singing, especially when he sang with Jeanette Macdonald. He was a baritone, but he had a wide range. This song is identified with him, so be it.

@51Linz To Continue: Please open your mind. There are many wonderful voices in this world. I don’t think that Mario would appreciate such a scathing denunciation of Eddy’s fans. He was a true gentleman, kind, loving and generous in praise of others. You do not do him honor by such slander. Slander is a poor way to support your personal opinion. Please understand that you are demeaning yourself, not Nelson Eddy, by such a comment.

@AngelaM55 You are right, some songs are identified with certain singers. You are right again in that Mario helped give many people their first introduction to opera. I am one of them also. May God bless him. He was the best.

I love Mario, he was my first introduction to opera. However, this song belongs totally to Nelson Eddy, once you've heard his ringing and robust rendition there is no comparison. Mario gave it his all as he always did but I'm sure it was a commercial and not an artistic decision that made him record it. However, nobody can top Mario's recording of that other Romberg chestnut, The Student Prince. IMHO, it was the best recording Mario ever made, heartbreakingly beautiful.

@barbrasgirl8 Nelson Eddy has long been a favorite of mine too. When he and Jeanette MacDonald sang together, it was truly magic. Thank you for bringing back a wonderful memory of them.

Really not as good as the definitive version by the wonderful baritone Nelson Eddy.

@SHICOFF1 Thank you for your comment. Many of us, not only Americans, but also people around the world, began a love of opera thanks to listening to this young man from South Philadelphia. He opened the beautiful world of opera to myriads of his fans. He is greatly missed.

Nice post, I like Lanza especially in these songs and the student prince. When I was ten I saw the new Lanza film, his second movie "the toast of New Orleans" and it turned me on to opera forever, that was 61 years ago!!

@ForCarolToEnjoy Thank you so much for your comment. My mother was also very fond of Mario Lanza’s voice. Hearing him sing brings back so many pleasant memories for me too. Thank goodness for his recordings, his TV show, his radio recordings, his films and other such media as YouTube to revisit those wonderful memories.

@hunlandsMom Thank you for your kind words. May you continue to enjoy the Mario Lanza videos which I upload. Such a beautiful voice and such feeling for the song lyrics he sang, truly one of a kind. Thank you also for the information about Franz Lehár. I read he studied violin at the Prague Conservatory, but the great Antonín Dvořák told him to focus on composing music. I read that his most famous operetta was The Merry Widow. What a gift he was to the world of music. Thank you for sharing.

Just awesome and fantastic, I just listen to, and listen to. To listen to this fantastic voice with Sigmund Romberg`s and Ferenc Lehár`s tunes is a heavenly feeling. Thank you for experience. Yes, Lehár Ferenc was Hugarian composer, just lived in Wienna because in that time Wiennea was the heaven of operetta like Montmartre for the painters. Thank you againe for the many fantastic songs and best quality.

@MrKonstantin06 Thank you, dear friend. I am very happy that you enjoyed it. What a magnificent voice Mario Lanza had. What feeling he put into the lyrics he sang. We may never again see his equal. How fortunate for us that he made so many recordings, plus his films.
