When I was a young girl, my parents had a 78 rpm vinyl record of love songs from their era. Mario Lanza had recorded a song in English called "Be my Love" (.....for no one else can end this yearning..) I remember how much they loved that song and how they would sing along and dance to it. When my younger brother was a toddler, each time he would hear it, he would start jumping up and down in the baby seat/walker that babies used at that time. My parents would talk about the effect of Mario Lanza's voice on him for decades to come. Somehow, it symbolized the love that emanated from that voice throughout our home. I can still hear the song and if I close my eyes, I can still see my parents. Such a powerful voice on many levels!

Alfredo Coccozo, (sp?) I think was his real name -- back then a husky teenager with dreams of an operatic career, used to deliver ice to the back entrance of my grandmother's Italian restaurant - the Florentine Garden, in Philadelphia. Years later, this song..which my Abbruzzese restaurant owning nonna sang to her daughter (my mother) became a special family favorite with us. In the intervening years we trotted it out, sang it, mom's Italian being much better than mine! Grandmom is long gone, mother at 92 1/2 is being lovingly cared for, as her dementia moves her closer to Heaven each day. But yesterday, with no prompting at all..she briefly came out of the fog, sat up, and in a clear, bell-like voice I remember with love from my childhood, started to sing, in tune, out loud and in perfect Italian, "Parlami d'amore mariu.." The nurses on the unit stopped, everybody listened and all, was quiet for a moment. The power of music, and memory. Thank you, dear Mr. Lanza. And nonna Mariu!

After viewing & listening to the many videos posted of Mario Lanza, IMO, God graced him with the most outstandingly gorgeous voice of any one on this earth. I have followed many others, but he is #1. In this video of this beautiful timeless fav Italian song, it is very evident. Grateful thanks for posting this wonderful video of the Great Mario Lanza. He & his incomparable voice are reverently remembered.
