Mario Lanza's beautiful voice and photos of him from the film "For the First Time" are joined with Astaire and Rogers lovely dancing to make a wonderful combination.

"Long Ago and Far Away" was a song originally written for the 1944 musical "Cover Girl". The music was written by Jerome Kern, and Ira Gershwin wrote the lyrics. Mario Lanza recorded the song for his 1951 television show.

The photographs are from Lanza's 1959 movie "For the First Time". Johanna von Koczian is the female lead. It is Lanza's last movie and was filmed in Italy. It is available for purchase from Turner Classic Movies.

Clips from the video of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers were taken from the 1939 movie "The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle". @Valdez244 We are fortunate to have The Great Caruso in brilliant Technicolor. I've heard that the process was not only quite complicated to produce, but also extremely expensive. What a pity that films today usually no longer use this process.

Just watched The Great Caruso again, probably his best performance because the subject was close to his heart, it`s such a pity it did`nt have cinemascope although the three strip technicolor is glorious.
