Charted at #53 on Billboard Hot 100 in September 1956. Mario's greatest pop chart success was in the early '50's but this recording brought Mario back to the Billboard charts, after an absence of three years. In the meantime he had some hits in the UK with songs from "The Student Prince". Following "Earthbound", he would have one more entry on the Hot 100, "Arrivederci Roma" which charted at #97 in May 1958. Sammy Davis Jr. also charted at #46 with his version of "Earthbound" during the same month.

Written by Bob Musel, Clive Richardson & Jack Taylor.

B-side is "This Land".

Thanks for posting this seldom heard beautiful song. I was listening to a CD of Mario Lanza's & when I heard this song thought he sang it with such brilliance. Found this video of it & never tire of hearing it. What a God Given talent he shared with the world. He left us much too soon, but he & his voice live on. Rest peacefully our shining star.

Many thanks for posting this rather rare song. This October 7 is the 55 th anniversary of Mario Lanza's death. What a great loss it was, but his voice is still with us, bringing so much thrill and beauty to the listeners. RIP, dear Maestro, our love is with you.

I just heard this for the first time. Another hit for the Maestro. Idol of my teens and again in my older years. Still love to hear his music. Considering the "music" of today this is heaven.

Found myself singing this in the kitchen. An earbug that was planted in my brain when I first heard it back '56.Decided to search for it on youtube. Thanks!

@AngelaM55 This is one of his most obscure records, glad you like it and I could introduce it to you! I'm a Mario fan too!

Wow, I've been a lifelong Mario fan and I never heard this before...it was not included on any of the compilations I had. Thank-you!

@musicmandon1 Yes, a tragic loss on both counts.

Great song. The tragedy here is that Lanza only lived to be 38, dying in 1959. Likewise, Enrico Caruso only lived to age 45. Even in his day singing stars had a way of dying young.
