This song, a standard and an old, dear favorite of mine, has been done many, many times before with varying degrees of success by other artists (most notably Dierdre Wilson Tabac in a powerful, soul-drenched Jazz/Blues vein, as well as Alvin Lee and 10 Years After at the Isle of Wight festival in a lowdown Blues/Rock version) . I've just heard this rendition by Mario Biondi for the first time and I am knocked out stone-cold on the Killing Floor. This is pure Soul/Hard Bop-Jazz with a restraint f delivery that clearly implies that more power and fury is available at a moment's notice. The economy of the instrumental arrangement is pure muscle and bone; no fat. There isn't a note or a beat that doesn't belong there. The vocals are the kind of smoky growl that only real human pain and experience can forge. I am utterly amazed and humbled at this majestic performance. Wow; knocked out ! It's such a gift when the world surprises you with something like this after having given up hope of ever being moved deep down.
