Despite the fact Marilyn sang this song, Marilyn was not really into expensive jewelry. The jewelry she wore was mostly costume, and the only things she owned was a pearl necklace and a diamond ring given to her by her 2nd husband, Joe DiMaggio. Also, in an interview in 1953 she said "People always ask me if diamonds are a girls best friend, frankly I do not." Bottom line, Marilyn Monroe was not a gold digger and did not thought diamonds are a girls best friend.
