Originally drawn from the "How We Live" band (former band of Steve Hogarth after "The Europeans") under the name "Simon's Car", the song was re-arranged and made its way to Holidays In Eden. Great Moment!

since you/ujio7 mentioned hogarth in pre-marillion mode.... look for any english language songs by "iza" [izabella trojanowska] -recorded in poland with ferg harper a former hogarth bandmate [with colin woore in "the europeans"] -covers of their "animal song " and "acid rain" --but the real treat is other tunes "golden soldiers" and "independence day" -and what a gorgeous polish accent -great prog-rock-pop -remarkable gtr -her only english tunes -you're welcome...

Cover my eyes The light falls on her face Dangerous lines Dangerous colours & shapes Ferocious designs Connected and ready to play Buttoned up tight Crimson and halloween white She's like the girl in the movie when the spitfire falls Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors Pain and heaven Pain and heaven The meaning of life A hair falls out of place Cover my eyes Dangerous colours and shapes And when she moves Cover my eyes She's like the girl on the t.v. with the red guitar Like the girl with the dealer at the end of the bar She's like the girl with the smile in the dream in the dark Like the girl overtaking in the open car Pain and heaven Pain and heaven Pain and heaven Pain and heaven Cover my eyes The light falls on her face Dangerous lines Dangerous colours & shapes Ferocious designs

I was a massive fan of Marillion in the days when Fish took front stage, Misplaced Childhood and Clutching at Straws were two beautifully crafted classics. I never even gave Steve Hogarth a chance and refused to listen to the new Marillion but after all these years I am blown away. A different band for sure but it's in a different place now and I cannot fault Hogath's voice, reminds me of Collective Soul (another fine band). So yeah, both periods are as good as each other

@mostlyanthony Kayleigh -- and anything else from the Fish-era -- makes these guys sound like five-year-olds.

I believe Steve Rothery was the one who thought to change the vocals from just sounds to "Pain and Heaven"

@PhilRamone I've listened to most, if not all, of it. I just really don't like anything from that era.

@dufortrph Ever listened to anything from the Hogarth-era besides "Cover My Eyes"?

Hogarth rules. He helped take Marillion from being a band that sounded a little like Pink Floyd and Genesis to being a band that nobody else sounds like. Thanks to Hogarth, Marillion is unique.

I cannot believe, or tolerate, how badly Hogarth derailed this fucking band. They were PERFECTLY poised to carry on Pink Floyd and Genesis. And they get this retard as a singer, and turn into a fucking U2 copy act.

Once again, Marillion proves its awesome ability to both compose and perform. What energy, passion, and entertainment!!!! What a great song!
