In my opinion it was a great moment because it was the duet of the decade but don't think it was that great of a song. It was only great because of who they are. I wish they duetted in 1994 when both of them were at their peak vocally. Mariah's voice was not in a good place in 1998 because her noldue issue was worsening and Whitney's voice was still powerful but it no longer had that velvety goodness that made it so great and was beginning to rasp. She was no longer the queen of High Cs at this point. I enjoyed their performance on Oprah though. How come the Academy Awards performance isn't on YouTube anymore? Did Clive snatch it from here just so he can make money by putting it on the "Never Before Seen"/Best Performances DVD?

yes maybe whitney's voice is stronger, but it's not all about screaming and barking to say someone has a "good" voice. Mariah's voice is simply more rare and unique. And i think this wasn't the final recording. you can see Mariah wasn't singing with full voice when they sang:"a small but still, resilient says love is very near". You can see in her face that she maybe wasn't aware of the lyrics.

Whitney was older than Mariah, smoking cigarettes but when they were singing together i heard only Whitney's voice. Mariah's voice in falsetto wasn't as clean as Whitney's.

This is an incredible moment in time. I'm so glad I was around to witness this joining of pop musics two greatest voices. The harmonies are hair raising. The way they each capture their verses, simply breathtaking. I so glad I had a chance to see this, and the performance on Oprah and at the Oscars. I took for granted the opportunity I had to argue with my family and friends about who sounds better. In my book... The jury is still out.
