Back in the late 1990's I saw Margaret Whiting perform, I don't think she was able to perform she had a backup singer hitting the high notes and she was seated most of time.. It's just so sad to have watched a great talent still trying to perform after her career was over. The same with Rosemary Clooney. I saw her toward the end of her life when she was so heavy and her breath so measured I actually left the theatre during her struggling performance

Maggie was a very verstile performer and she was also a belter when it came to a number such as this. And boy did she put it across. What a beauty and a voice.She was a champion of a great tune.

Margaret was given the thankless task by Capitol of doing a cover of the Joni James original. Patti Page also covered the song on Mercury and all in all about 10 versions of the song were released by various artists. Having had "You Belong to Me" covered by Jo Stafford and Patti Page for her previous release, Joni wondered how she could ever have a hit, but she did have an enormous career. This song was written for you, originally titled "You Should Believe Me;" she suggested the change.

Joni's Patti's and Margret's are all very good....but I like Margret's the best. I remember singing along with all three whenever it would come on the radio. Love this love song.

Wonderful version! Song was a top 40 hit for Joni James #1, Patti Page #4, and Ms Whiting #29 in 1953. Personally, I like this one best. Thanks for posting!
