Since first hearing Marcus Roberts perform on Wynton's albums in the late 80s, I've been following his music and collecting his recordings. This piece is from his "As Serenity Approaches".

Virtuosic boogie woogie! You've never heard two hands have more fun than this!

WestSideOfJazzAn alumni of the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind in St. Augustine, Florida, Marcus Roberts shares more than extraordinary musical talents with the late, great Ray Charles. Charles also attended the same school as a youth. After study at Florida State University, Roberts was tapped to be Wynton Marsalis' prime pianist, and the result has been an extraordinary musical career. A throwback to the old slide piano days, Roberts has brought contemporary sensitivities to the musical styling, and plays with a muscular two fisted approach, one noting that he wanted to be able to play as fast and as articulately with both hands at the same time. In this rendition of the jazz classic Cherokee, its apparent that he is fulfilling that desire.

This is guy is really good. The story i heard was Wynton left the stage one night so Marcus had to play solo. WOW glad he did.
