Well, I can understand why people complain...as a guitarist I can defiantly tell Richey has no idea of what hes supposed to be playing and some of his miming is incredibly out in this particular video. All that being said, he still made HUGE contributions to the group in the forms of his lyrics and vision and there is no question he was an essential part of their formative years. :)

Who has ever said Bolan couldn't play? He's one of the best there ever was! His riffs can be childishly easy, but that's the mark of a great guitarist... being able to do the crazy shit (which he could anyway) as well as being able to play something that's simple, but still memorable and unique.

I wouldn't say he pretended he could play. He was always honest about being crap, and sometimes being unplugged. It's more that he used the guitar as a fashion accessory. Other bands got all precious about it because they made the mistake of practising for hours on end but still couldn't be half as compelling a rock star as Richey. Less people should learn to play, more people should have interesting ideas to communicate.

@bennylector dude, he sucked at guitar. he was just decent at miming it. and i'm obsessed with the guy. i would have loved it if he was secretly awesome at playing guitar. but no, he was awful at it. still an incredible person, though.

I'm really glad they've recently started adding songs from GATS to their live set. Saw them do Sleepflower & Roses In The Hospital last Thursday. Those alone made the gig monumental...and having James Dean Bradfield walk by me in the crowd!

I don't understand why people keep going on about the fact that Richey couldn't play the guitar. he looks as though he does a decent enough job of playing rhythm guitar, he doesn't look out of time ever. Why did he need to be a great guitarist anyway? especially when you have JDB, who is the master on guitar,
