Brilliant intro: The Manics have matured into a band that reminds me of Ultravox with a much wider variety. Still like my 'Vox records though.

I always hear "Cylons fear my sacrifice" at about 1:50. Anyone else?

Yeah. The line "It's twelve o'clock to midnight/ there must be someone to blame" I think he's saying that he doesn't blame Richey for what he did.

you mean in the song Australia?

John Blake

Richey was smart enough to understand what he was doing, he knew he couldn't belong. Nicky says it in Australia, that Richey isn't to blame because he knew what he wanted to do, and you have to respect that.

you are so shallow.

Fair point, but he was a troubled individual and wanted out. I hope he is still alive.

If he was an exceptional person he wouldn't have done what he did. An act of complete selfishness with no thought of compassion for his family, friends or fans.

I totally agree with your comment. And "TGW" is a great album. James is a genius.

"In the end we had the pieces of the puzzle, but no matter how we put them together, gaps remained, oddly shaped emptinesses mapped by what surrounded them, like countries we couldn't name." — Jeffrey Eugenides (The Virgin Suicides)

Okay, okay... Richey was a great writer... blah, blah. But James is the real genius for putting the words to music. I think he has proven that he can do it all alone. Now can anyone tell me what the last lines are and where they come from? None of the lyric pages include them. Thanks.

Good point, I think Richey is alive . Haven't got a clue where he is but i believe he is still alive. Look at all the clue's from the past up to the present.. It's a massive jigsaw and we are trying to find the missing piece.. He was an exceptional human being. With a brain that we wouldn't understand, but make's complete and utter sense to him.

That is a good point, but you can argue equally you wouldnt have the art that the Manics made because of his fate. At least if you dont believe in parallel worlds. It is what it is, always two sides.

Biggles. stop going back to the past all the time and calling him an embarrasing lyricist.. He was far from it. Some of their early material was like that of course, and some brilliantly prophetic and right on the money. Jesus, everyone needs to grow so cut him some slack. Anyway, even when looking around the scene at the time of GT you fucking tell me one lyricist that could match his intellect for his age. Somehow I doubt it. I think you're just trolling but wtf, you got a rise.

Hmmm, that is of course a very tough question. Who knows, its very easy to imagine someone like R committing suicide. WLW certainly evoked that sentiment for me. No wonder Nicky found it a difficult thing to edit. Doesn't get much better than that as a closer.
