Castro's imposed an embargo on Cubans to keep himself in power. If you read history you would see dictators are only interested in themselves, not the people. Democracy is better than a dictator no matter how imperfect it is. Go live in Cuba.

real democracy depends on your point of vue...and as a matter of fact, if you read unbiased history books, you'd see that it was the USA that imposed the embargo on Cuba. Have you been to Cuba ??

The only embargo on Cuba is from Castro and his family. If they stepped down and let Cuban run their own country then Cubans would not only be free but also have enough to eat.

Castro turned Cuba into a slave camp, the people live in terror, never have enough toe at, cannot protest and have no workers rights. Pro Castro supporters are pure evil, go live in Cuba if you like slavery so much, evil.

im american jackass. and america has turned Cuba into a wasteland. but youre probably just a troll so bye!

For the record no one has ever died fleeing the USA, Canada or any real democracy, more Castro propaganda. Oppression clearly must have driven his mother to risk their lives to flee a slave camp. People do it every day in Cuba, North Korea or Syria. Top say these mothers do not care fort heir children show just how sick people like you are.

so youre saying its better to kill your children than let them grow up somewhere crappy? because thats what she was essentially doing. its a death trip with very few actual survivors. not to mention she DID NOT have custody of her child at the time. but youre oversimplifying the situation just like washington did. and for the record tons of people have died fleeing america. the example you may be most familiar with is literal slaves (not like you use the word) on the underground railroad.

No one has ever risked their life trying to escape the USA, Canada or Finland. The Castro family have turned that beautiful place into a torturous slave camp.

It shows you just how horrible life is as one of Castro's slaves that a mother is prepared to die just to get her son to safety and freedom, just so he can have enough to eat and a future.

It was evil to send a little boy Elian back to the Castro families slave camp. The brutality and oppression of the Cuban people that goes on daily is horrific, a smaller version of North Korean. Cubans are human beings, and tragically treated as slaves. Imprisoned if they try to escape, speak out against oppression and starvation.

i don't remember. at which point in time he asks them?

If you've seen the documentary, Fidel asks them himself through a translator.

there was a cuban stage manager who tried to convince the manager of the manics to play baby elian. i wonder if castro asked them, i doubt if he even knows their material. eg he didn't see the whole show, and his statement 'louder than war' says didn't like it, in a kind way. why would james be so nervous/anxious when he's playing a home game? this song reminds me of russian poets and composers who offered latent resistance within enforced boundaries of communist diversion paradigms.

The song is indisputably pro-Cuba. My issue with the Manics is that they do put this stuff out there but then they pull their punches when they tour. To any independent observer, it's unthinkable that they would NOT play it in Cuba, but they were about to bottle it when Fidel specifically asked them to play it - the exact same way they bottled playing "Natwest" when they played in NYC at the beginning of the financial crisis.

Elian was kidnapped twice. his mother kidnapped him to bring him on a boat with her. those boat rides are known as death traps in both america and cuba. very few people survive. basically she was willing to gamble with her sons life with very bad odds. that is inhuman. he got kidnapped a second time by the US. see, americans didnt understand the complexity of the situation. they thought cuba=bad not realizing we were the monsters with seemingly limitless power. he was just a boy, not prop. sad.

if you have seen "our manic's in cuba" they didnt have much choice but to play this beautifull but flawed song, they were continualy hounded. still one of the best tracks from "know your enemy" james never fails to impress in his usual solo sets. is america "the devils playground"? perhaps.......
