The female voice is New Zealander Shona Laing.

I haven't found any kind of 'official' information about the vocals on this MMEB single but I've found this funny bit of information instead... Peter Marsh sings on Vangelis 'Multitrack Suggestion' (from the album 'See You Later', 1980) and on MMEB's 'Stranded' (from 'Chance', 1980). And the vocals on 'I (Who Have Nothing)' sound curiously similar to the vocals on 'Multitrack Suggestion'.

Thanks monkmann! That sounds more credible.

The singer of I Who Have Nothing is the late Steve Waller, not Chris Thompson.

I think it's Steve Waller the guitarist of that period (Lead Vocals on Don't Kill It Carol, Demolition Man etc.)

Steve Gardiner

It's Chris Thompson, who was with Manfred Mann's Earth Band for most of their existence.

Love MM, but apart from the instrumental break this is dreadful.

The male vocals sound like a Vangelis track on the album "See you later"... Same singer? Any clue?

Have always liked this song. That instrumental break goes right through me.

Somwhere in Afrika is, one of the best albums of MMEB,has different style however-so this song wouldn't fit.

I'm surprised this didn't make it onto "Somewhere in Afrika" - the female singer on this is New Zealand acoustic-folk singer (well, that is her normal style when solo) Shona Laing...
