Having seen the Metropolitan 2010 performance I tried to find other versions. Subsequently I discovered (the then Giovanni) Bryn Terfel's festival solo performance with his thoroughly impressive sound of voice, and Erwin Schrott's - and I can't help coming back to Ferruccio who, in excess of all others, has such grace as can be. I think grace has it all: performance, elegance, clarity and fine stamina. As I come to this point, I must realise, what made Ferruccio's Leporello a bit clashing with its frames: his personality was actually greater than the character and by reflecting its own beams on to Don Giovanni, contributed to Bryn's success: Ferruccio's grace in a way shone on the figure of the Don... which was a covert virtue and gain of that stage event.
