Funky Women by Maceo Parker and all his Kingsmen 45 of House of the Fox records. This track is from his Doin' Their own thing LP. This 45, as well as the LP was rumored to have been blocked from radio stations by James Brown. The LP was released shortly after Maceo left the JB's and formed his own group. Brown was rumored to have paid DJ's not to play this record. If anyone has more info regarding this record, feel free to post. Very funky nonetheless! The flip side of this 45 is Southwick

Of course James paid DJ's not to broadcast Maceo's stuff! No one said he was a gentleman when it came down to business, HIS business, music, making it, having the funkiest musicians playing it live, etc. It's well known that he was somekind of a tyrant, I've even heard the players went on strike once. I love James' world of music, but it just doesn't go any further...

I believe that info about what James Brown did was correct. I have a book called "Give The Drummer Some" and Melvin Parker mentioned that as well.
