This song holds a very strong place in my heart. I know to most people these words wouldn't seem so haunting and so wonderful all at the same time. My best friend was killed in a drunk driving accident almost two years ago. A week before, we were at a small party together.. we decided to spend the night since we had both been drinking. The morning after, we were on our way home and had this song on repeat. We didn't say a word the whole drive other than singing along and saying goodbye when I got out of the truck. But that morning was so dream like, it was so bright outside and warm.. I can still see my hand out the window and hear his voice singing the words. I can't not be attached to this song. This is my last memory with him. His life was taken so soon. Some days I forget he's even gone and I'm bluntly reminded and it stings just the same as the day it happened. PLEASE please please do not drink and drive. For the sake of every mother, father, son, daughter, grandparent, friend, girlfriend, boyfriend, PLEASE find a ride, spend the night. Don't make the mistake that can't be undone. RIP Matthew Scott Lail, I hope one day it all makes sense.
