People don't understand that until WW II ended, the Communist Party was a viable alternative, with about 1 million members in the U.S., who became disaffected after Stalin came to power. But in the 30s, my father was a Socialist Labor member and was a union organizer for the railroads. Of course that ideology would make sense to a lot more people who had been out of work for 8 years and whose family members were dying left and right out of starvation or suicide. But the war changed all that.

You're welcome! Imagine, being able to cradle your baby in less than the palm of your hand! We are indeed a very fragile, but still ferocious species; we cling to life and make it our own!

Beautiful performance & images. The image at :59 just about broke my heart. So tender. We are a fragile species, if ever there was one. Thanks for posting.:)

Robeson had a wonderful voice and commanding stage presence. He sang the definitive "Old Man River." Unhappily, he got caught up in the 1930's communist movement in the U.S., just like the giant black intellectual Du Bois. and he self-exiled to Europe to sing.
