Her voice is the best accompaniment possible for this simple version of 'Satisfied Mind' written by Red Hayes and Jack Rhodes. This version comes from Lucinda's debut album "Ramblin'" released in 1978. The album consists of nothing but acoustic country blues and folk. Her voice, her 12 string guitar and minimal accompaniment by John Grimaudo as second guitarist on a 6 string, adds to the traditional feel of the album. ENJOY!

SATISFIED MIND written by J.Hayes/J.Rhodes. Lyrics as sung by Lucinda Williams:

How many times

Have you heard someone say,

"If I had his money

I'd do things my way."

How little they know

That it's so hard to find,

One rich man in a hundred

With a satisfied mind.

Once I was living

In fortune and fame.

And everything I could dream of,

To get a start in life's game.

And suddenly it happened,

I lost every dime.

But I'm richer by far

With a satisfied mind.

No money can buy back

Your youth when your old.

Or a friend when you're lonely,

Or a heart that's grown cold.

And the world's richest man

Is a pauper at times,

Compared to the man

With a satisfied mind.

When my life is over

And my time has run out.

My friends and my loved ones

I'll leave, there's no doubt.

But there's one thing for certain,

When it comes my time.

I'll leave this old world

With a satisfied mind.

I'll leave this old world

With a satisfied mind.

Hi Barb, this is a great rendition, but my long-time favorite is by Hamilton Camp who recorded it in 1964 on his album Paths of Victory. Jeff Buckley did a heart-breakingly beautiful version with electric guitar as a demo for his unfinished album (when he drowned in the Mississippi). They released the demos as (Sketches for) My Sweetheart the Drunk. My just-posted video's soundtrack is Lucinda doing Memphis Minnie's Nothing in Rambling (also the video title). best, skip
