A song about her home town, from the album "Car Wheels On A Gravel Road".

She played 2 nights at I.D's in Melbourne AU 1989. Small venue got tickets at the door both nights. I think the self titled album was just new and they were touring to promote it. Gurf Morlix used a VB stubby for slide.

There were only 4 of them. She said they'd be back soon with a bigger band.

Saw her a couple of years ago. Amazing music and lyrics, but the worst stage presence I had ever seen.

The song is about an old lover of hers, Clyde Joseph Woodward. She wanted to spread his ashes off the bridge in Lake Charles but was told it was not permitted. Apparently she did it anyway. Thus, 'now your home is in Lake Charles no matter what they say' line. I believe Clyde sufferd from depression, (run as far as you could go, did an angel whisper in your ear, take away your fear, in those black moments." ) and ultimately over came the fear of dying and did so.

Listening to Howlin Wolfe going over the Atchafaylaya basin in a ole El Camino. What a wonderful picture. 'No matter what they say'.

So perfect! From everybody, the slide guitarist, the backup singer and especially Lucinda Williams... obviously a heartfelt song about someone who died."Did an angel whisper in your earAnd hold you close and take away your fearIn those long, last moments?

Good old Louisiana, some of my happiest childhood memories happened there, and the friendliest most fun people in this country live there. My Dad, my Son's Momo and Fat Boy, and my Son's Father all from Louisiana.

Lucinda is one of my favorite musicians. She sings from the heart. We need more like her and less of this commercial sound we're getting drowned with today

Everyone has a story but I have to believe yours is true. I saw her in concert about 8 years ago. Before she sang it, she explained that the song was about an old lover who died and then being told it was against the law to scatter the ashes-She said "Now your soul is in Lake Charles no matter what they say!" Then, she started to sing the song. How did Clyde die?
