I recall being a young man from New York spending a 2 week vacation in Los Angeles. I had never heard this song before while in NY but in LA it was playing in all the clubs. It transfixed me everytime I heard it and I couldn't get enough of it. I returned home expecting to hear it but it was not on any radio station (no Internet back then). I figured it must have been an LA based band and I'd never hear it again. Then suddenly about 4 months later it went into "rotation" in NY. Bliss!
